Product information

Zineryt is an antibacterial cutaneous cream used for the treatment of acne. It kills the bacteria which contribute to acne and allows the spots and surrounding inflammation to clear as well. The addition of zinc acetate also allows the skin to heal quicker. If Zineryt is applied properly to the affected area of skin, it should take between 10-12 weeks to clear the acne, but in more severe cases it can take longer.

Acne is a common skin condition which causes spots and inflammation. It usually affects people during adolescence between the ages of 12-25, but it can occur at any age. The skin contains sebaceous glands which sit beneath the surface and produce an oil called sebum which keeps the skin smooth. Pores in the skin allow this oil to come to the surface but too much of it can cause pores to become blocked and this is when the bacteria can thrive.

The bacterium which causes acne is called Cutibacterium acnes and usually lives harmlessly on human skin. However, if sebum is built up and blocks the pores of the skin, then this bacteria can multiply and form spots which become inflamed and pus-filled.

Acne can also be affected by the presence of hormones, which are either being produced by the body or from medication. Teenage acne is often associated with increased levels of testosterone, which is produced during puberty. Testosterone is important for the development of the male genitals and maintaining muscle and bone strength. The sebaceous glands are sensitive to the increased levels of hormones, and so more sebum is produced than the skin actually needs.

Other possible triggers for acne include cosmetic products, certain medicines such as steroid medicines, wearing items of clothing which put pressure on a particular area of skin, and smoking. Acne is not affected by diet or hygiene, which are popular misconceptions.

While using Zineryt, a doctor may suggest that you have regular appointments in order to see how your skin is progressing. To accompany your treatment, they might recommend using a non-antibiotic skin cream, such as a fragrance-free moisturiser which can soothe the skin. It may take more than 12 weeks for the skin to heal completely, but it is vital to continue with the treatment as you have discussed with your doctor otherwise the spots may build up a resistance to the treatment.

If you would like to renew a prescription for Zineryt, or purchase it for the first time, you can do so through our online service. Once you have filled in a short online consultation form and a doctor has reviewed your answers, your medicine will be shipped to your address within one day of ordering from our UK pharmacy.
