The eyes are delicate organs that require constant lubrication in order for them to be able to perform at their best. Our tears are composed of water, oils, mucus, antibodies and proteins all of which are secreted from glands surrounding the eye. The balance can be upset by a number of things such as contact lenses, climate, certain medications and hormonal changes. If tear production is disrupted so that not enough tears are produced, or they evaporate too quickly, the person can be left with dry eye syndrome. The condition can be irritating and painful as eyes feel gritty and sore they may also appear red, eyelids may stick together and vision may seem blurry.
This common condition, also known as keratoconjunctivitis, can be contracted by anyone, although it is more frequently seen in women, older people and those who wear contact lenses. In some cases dry eye syndrome can lead to conjunctivitis or an inflamed cornea and may require specialist attention.
Severe cases can lead to an extreme sensitivity to light sources known as photophobia and even a deterioration in vision. Dry eyes cannot be cured but symptoms might improve if certain factors are addressed. This might include getting treatment for an underlying medical condition, altering certain medications, avoiding damaging environments such as air conditioned rooms and improving your diet. You might want to seek treatment for your dry eyes if the symptoms are causing you pain or interfering with your day-to-day life.
Ilube eye drops are used to treat dry eyes when insufficient amounts of tears are being produced. The active ingredient acetylcysteine is combined with hypromellose in order to soothe the eyes by increasing lubrication and acting as artificial tears. The drops also work to break down any sticky mucus which could be impeding tear production or distribution.
Immediate medical attention should be sought if dry eye symptoms persist or become worse when Ilube eye drops are being used.
