Eczema is a chronic skin condition, which causes the skin to become very dry. Symptoms of eczema include the skin becoming red, itchy and irritated. Dryness can also cause cracks to develop. It more commonly tends to appear on the hands, arms and the backs of the knees. Sometimes it occurs on the face and scalp.

The condition goes through periods of flare-up and remission. Episodes can be triggered by various factors, including allergens such as pollen or certain types of food. It can also be exacerbated by irritating chemicals in soaps and shampoos.

Why some people get eczema isn’t clear. Symptoms are caused by the release of inflammatory chemicals by the immune system, and is sometimes associated with asthma and hay fever. There is no cure, but treatment can help to alleviate it. In some cases over the counter emollients can help. But in others, prescription solutions or ointments may be required.

Hydrocortisone is a popular option for dermatitic conditions such as eczema, and this is the active ingredient in Mildison LipoCream. It works by lessening the effect of inflammatory chemicals on skin cells, thereby reducing irritation.
