What is Levitra?

Levitra is a tablet used to treat men with erectile dysfunction (known also as ED or impotence).

What forms is it available in?

Levitra is available as either a standard tablet or an orodispersible tablet.

The standard tablet is swallowed with water.

The orodispersible version dissolves in the mouth without water.

What are the advantages of the orodispersible tablet?

It allows the user to take it discreetly, without the need for water.

However, this version is only available at present in one dose: 10mg. Those requiring a higher or lower dose will need to buy Levitra 5mg or 20mg as a standard tablet.

Does Levitra work?

Levitra is very effective for many men.

In clinical trials undertaken analysing men using the 10mg orodispersible dose, 71 percent of penetration attempts were reported to be successful; and when reporting on erection maintenance, 63 percent of attempts were said to be successful.

What are the ingredients of Levitra?

The active agent in Levitra tablets is vardenafil.

The regular tablet version also contains: crospovidone, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal anhydrous silica.

Are the ingredients in Levitra Orodispersible different?

Yes. They also contain vardenafil, but the excipient ingredients in the orodispersible tablets are peppermint flavour, magnesium stearate, mannitol (E421), aspartame (E951), sorbitol (E420), crospovidone and hydrated silica colloidal.

How does Levitra work?

When a man becomes sexually aroused, a series of chemical reactions in the body occur. One chemical, cyclic guanosine monophosphate (or cGMP), causes the blood vessels in the penis to relax, widen and allow increased blood flow, leading to an erection.

An enzyme called Phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) can cause cGMP to dissolve, resulting in erectile dysfunction. Levitra inhibits the action of PDE5, therefore making it easier to maintain an erection.

Is Levitra available over the counter?

No, you cannot buy Levitra over the counter in the UK.

Levitra is a prescription medication, which means that a qualified medical practitioner will need to assess whether it is suitable it is for you.

You should not trust any supplier that offers to let you buy Levitra without a prescription.

Who makes Levitra?

Levitra is manufactured and marketed in the United Kingdom by Bayer.

When should I take Levitra?

Levitra should be taken between 25 minutes and an hour before sexual activity.

How long do Levitra tablets last for?

With sexual stimulation, you should be able to achieve an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse within 25 minutes.

The medicine should remain active in the body for four to five hours after taking it. However, this doesn’t mean that the user will maintain a continuous erection for this entire period. The drug will only work when the user is sexually stimulated.

Those who experience a prolonged erection which will not dissipate (priapism) should seek medical advice immediately.

How often can I take Levitra?

You should not take Levitra more than once a day. It only needs to be taken prior to sexual activity to be effective. Your prescriber will provide further information on how often you should use it.

How safe is Levitra?

Like all prescription medication, Levitra was subjected to rigorous testing and clinical trials by medical agencies before being granted a license.

Levitra is perfectly safe, provided a qualified doctor has approved its use and prescribed it after taking into consideration the symptoms of your condition, any other medications you are using, and underlying health issues.

You must only ever buy Levitra from a registered pharmacy which requires a prescription to process your order.

Does Levitra have any side effects?

As with all medication, Levitra can cause side effects, but not everyone who takes it will get them.

Your doctor will be able to discuss any side effects that could be caused by reactions to other medication you take, or medical conditions you have. Read the list of possible side effects in the leaflet supplied with the medication before taking it.

If you have an allergic reaction, such as a rash, itching or facial swelling, an erection that becomes painful and lasts for more than four hours (priapism), or sudden vision or hearing loss then you should seek immediate medical attention.

What are the side effects of Levitra?

Among the most common are dizziness, flushing, runny nose and indigestion. Less common side effects may include drowsiness, impaired vision and muscle pain. More information is available in the patient information leaflet.

What is Levitra used for?

Levitra is only used to treat erectile dysfunction. The branded medicine is not used in the treatment of any other medical conditions.

I don’t have ED. Can I take Levitra to improve my sexual performance?

No. Levitra is solely prescribed to treat the symptoms of erectile dysfunction. It will not help to enhance sexual performance.

I’ve not heard of Levitra. Why should I take it instead of Viagra?

While they have different active ingredients, Levitra and Viagra both work in a similar way. Viagra may work better for some people, and Levitra will be more appropriate for others. Your doctor will be able to tell you which treatment is best for you.

Levitra can become effective more quickly, and is thought to last slightly longer than Viagra; it is also more suitable for men with some underlying medical conditions.

A key advantage of Levitra is that it is available in an orodispersible form, which means it can be placed on the tongue and dissolved, so can be taken more discreetly.

Can women take Levitra?

No. Levitra is not suitable for use by women in any circumstances.

Can I take Levitra at the same time as my other medication?

It’s extremely important that you inform your doctor about any other prescription or nonprescription medicine you’re currently using before they issue you with this medicine. They will be able to inform you about any interactions that could be potentially problematic.

Can I drink grapefruit juice while taking Levitra?

Drinking grapefruit juice is not recommended while taking Levitra. It contains chemicals known as furanocoumarins which can affect how the medicine is broken down in the body, and might impede the effects of this treatment.

Is a generic version of Levitra available?

Yes. Vardenafil became available in October 2018 as a generic medicine for ED.

What can I do if Levitra doesn’t work for me?

If you find that Levitra is not producing adequate results, consult your doctor. They may decide to adjust your dose, or talk to you about alternative treatments.

Is it safe to buy Levitra online?

Yes, as long as you buy it from a registered online pharmacy. They should be registered with General Pharmaceutical Council, and the website should carry their logo.

You should not attempt to purchase Levitra from any website that offers to sell it to you without a prescription. Sellers who do so are operating illegally and these products may be counterfeit and dangerous.
