Viridal Duo is an injectable treatment for erectile dysfunction, marketed by UCB Pharma. It contains alprostadil, which functions by widening blood vessels.
If you’ve used this treatment before, you can renew your prescription and buy Viridal online with our secure consultation service. Orders are checked by a registered prescriber before being dispensed at our UK pharmacy.
Viridal Duo is a treatment for erectile dysfunction, given by injection. It contains an active ingredient called alprostadil, which works by relaxing blood vessels and increasing blood flow to the penis. A prescriber will issue a low dose to start with, and advise the patient to gradually increase their dose with each use until the target dose has been reached. Once the most suitable dose has been determined, the treatment should help the user to get an erection within 5-15 minutes. It will typically work for up to an hour.
Because we only offer this treatment to people who have used it before, we only supply the continuation pack for this medicine, not the starter pack. Please note that the continuation pack we offer contains fresh needles, but does not come supplied with a plunger to use the medicine. You must keep your plunger from your starter pack, and use this with the medicines supplied in the continuation pack.
It is therefore very important that you do not order this medication from us if you have not already used the starter pack, and been shown how to administer it in person by a doctor or nurse.
If you have used the starter pack before, but have not kept your plunger and wish to order Viridal online from us, please contact us for more assistance.
Viridal Duo 20mcg + plunger contains a pre-built plunger but it is still only suitable for those that have received training by a healthcare professional on how to administer the injection. This product is similar to Caverject and can be ordered by those who have used Caverject previously.
How common is erectile dysfunction?
It is thought that about half of all men over 40 will experience erectile dysfunction, or impotence, at some point. However, even though it is more common in older men, it can and often does affect younger men too.
What causes it?
Several factors can contribute towards erectile dysfunction. A lack of sufficient blood flow to the penis is one cause. For an erection to occur, blood needs to be able to flow into the smooth muscle tissue in the penis. When blood flow is restricted, this can induce erectile problems.
Issues with blood flow may occur in men with certain conditions, such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol. It can also be a result of obesity; and smoking and alcohol consumption can sometimes be causes too.
Emotional or psychological factors, such as stress or anxiety, can also cause erection problems. This is much more likely to be the cause if someone only has occasional symptoms; for instance if someone’s erections are usually fine, but they have difficulty getting one during intercourse itself.
Medication may not always be required to effectively treat the condition. If a person’s symptoms are the result of an emotional problem, for example, they may benefit from talking the issue out with their partner, or speaking to a therapist or counsellor.
If treatment is necessary, it’s typical for oral medicines such as Viagra or Cialis to be recommended in the first instance. If these are ineffective, or unsuitable for the patient, then a doctor may advise trying a topical or injectable form of medication, such as Viridal Duo. You can read about the other available treatment options on our information page.
How does Viridal Duo work?
There are several processes which take place in the body to produce an erection. In response to sexual stimuli, certain chemical transmitters in the body ‘tell’ blood vessels near the penis to widen, and this allows blood to flow into the smooth muscle (or corpus cavernosum) in the penile shaft. When this muscle is filled with blood, the penis becomes erect.
Prostaglandin E1, or PGE1, is an example of a chemical which tells blood vessels near the penis to relax and let blood in. Erectile dysfunction can be the result of these chemicals either not working properly or not receiving the signal they need.
Alprostadil is a synthetic version of PGE1. It functions in the same way, by telling taught blood vessels near the penis to widen. This facilitates blood flow, and makes getting and keeping an erection easier.
