Product information

Loceryl Lacquer is a treatment used in fungal nail infections, and is made by Galderma. It is a nail lacquer directly applied to the infected nail, and the active constituent, amorolfine, works by targeting the cell structure of the fungi. This breaks down the fungi and helps to restore fungal balance in the affected nail and surrounding tissue.

The treatment is applied once or twice a week, and may be required for up to 6 months for fingernails, or 9-12 months for toenails.

Several different types of natural fungi live on our skin harmlessly. However, in certain conditions, some types of fungi can multiply and develop a greater presence; and this can lead to an infection.

The feet tend to be a common site of fungal infections. This is because certain types of fungi prefer warm and moist environments, making the bottom of the feet and between the toes an ideal breeding ground.

Athlete’s foot is a typical, well-known manifestation of a fungal skin infection. It causes the skin between the toes to become cracked, dry, itchy and sometimes painful. This type of fungi can also spread to the nails, and cause the toenails to become infected.

However, while it is not as common, fungal nail infections (known medically as onychomycosis) can affect the fingernails too. This might occur when the fungi is transferred from an infected toe to the fingers, or if a person shares hand towels or manicuring implements with someone who has an infected nail.

Symptoms of a fungal nail infection include discoloration of the infected nail, the nail becoming thick and brittle, and feelings of pain or discomfort.

There are several treatments available for fungal nail infections. These are most commonly issued in the form of antifungal medication, which may be given as a tablet or as a topical solution.

Loceryl Nail Lacquer is a topical antifungal. This is applied to the infected nail with an applicator, and is typically administered once or twice a week for a designated period. A doctor may review the infection every three months, to ensure that the treatment is working as it should.

The active ingredient in Loceryl is amorolfine. It tackles the infection by preventing the spread of the fungal cells. It does this by stopping the fungi from making a self-sustaining protein, called ergosterol. Once the cells stop producing ergosterol, holes begin to appear in the cell membrane, and then the cells expire. This neutralises the infection, and relieves symptoms.

  • The duration of treatment may last for up to 6 months for fingernails, and for up to 9-12 months for toenails.
