Product information

Trosyl is a nail solution marketed in the UK by Pfizer. It is used in the treatment of fungal nail infections. The active ingredient in Trosyl is an antifungal called tioconazole. This fights the infection by stopping fungal cells from producing a self-sustaining sterol, and compromising their cell structure.

Fungal nail infections (or onychomycosis) are characterised by discolored, hardened, thick and brittle nails. They develop slowly and can also often cause pain, itching and irritation. Fungal nail infections tend to occur mainly on the toenails, but they can affect the fingernails too. In some cases, they may be caused by a fungal infection of the skin (such as athlete’s foot) spreading to the nail.

The are many types of natural fungi which live harmlessly on our bodies. However, in certain conditions, some of these fungi can develop into larger numbers. This can result in an infection, which can cause skin irritation, redness, and when they affect the nails, the above-mentioned symptoms.

Certain fungi tend to thrive and multiply in moist, dark or warm conditions, which is why it is common for this type of infection to affect the skin and nails on the toes. However, fungal infections can be passed from one person to another, such as through the use of shared items such as towels. Fungal nail infections can also be spread through the use of unsterilised nail implements used in manicuring and pedicuring.

Trosyl is among the medications used in the treatment of fungal nail infections. This is a topical solution which is applied directly to the affected nail. The solution leaves a film on the nail, which sinks through the nail and gets to the source of the infection.

The active constituent in Trosyl is an antifungal called tioconazole, which works by inhibiting the ability of the fungi to produce ergosterol. The fungi requires this sterol to protect its cell structure. Once the fungi cannot make this sterol, the cells begin to lose integrity and disintegrate. This then kills off the infection and reduces symptoms. Treatment with Trosyl may last for up to 6 months. In certain cases, the duration of treatment may even be as long as 12 months.

To order Trosyl online from our UK pharmacy, take our consultation. A GMC-registered doctor will assess your case, and issue a prescription for Trosyl if suitable. This will then be dispensed by our pharmacy, before being sent to you by tracked next-day delivery.

  • Use the brush to thinly apply the solution so that it covers the infected nail and surrounding skin.
