Ultraproct is a medication for piles, made by Meadow. It is available to buy from our UK pharmacy in two forms, as Ultraproct Suppository tablets, and as Ultraproct Ointment. The treatment contains two active substances, which are a type of steroid and an anaesthetic. Together, these agents provide relief from inflammation and from discomfort in the anal region.
- Fights inflammation
- Soothes irritation
- Easy to apply
Piles, or haemorrhoids to give the condition its medical term, can cause pain, swelling, irritation, and sometimes light bleeding in and around the rectal area. This is caused by varicose veins in the region, which are often the result of high pressure in surrounding blood vessels. Although they are more common in those over the age of 45, they can and often do affect younger people too.
Numerous factors can contribute to haemorrhoids, such as being overweight, having high blood pressure, or being constipated and having to strain when opening the bowels. Sitting on hard surfaces for long periods can also increase a person’s susceptibility, as can having persistent diarrhoea.
Haemorrhoids are not usually serious, and many instances will pass on their own without the need for intervention from a practitioner. The appearance of blood from the rectum however is something which in any event you should speak to your doctor about.
The severity of haemorrhoids can often be reduced with non-medicinal measures, such as losing weight, taking steps to reduce blood pressure, and eating more fibre so as to ease constipation. However, for those who are finding that piles is causing them noticeable discomfort or hindering their daily routine, treatment is available in suppository or ointment form.
In Ultraproct, the active components are a corticosteroid called fluocortolone and an anaesthetic called cinchocaine. Fluocortolone prevents the action of chemicals the immune system releases which cause inflammation and swelling; whereas cinchocaine inhibits the transmission of pain signals from the affected area to the brain.
Finding the haemorrhoid treatment you need online has never been more straightforward. It’s as simple as choosing your treatment and taking our confidential medical assessment. Once complete, one of our practising doctors will examine your case and issue a prescription for your item if it is safe for you. How to use Ultraproct
Follow those specific directions given to you by your prescriber when using this treatment, and adhere to the instructions in the patient information leaflet. These measures are vital in making sure your medication is as effective as possible, and that the risk of side effects is kept to a reasonable limit.
- Apply as directed.
For Ultraproct Ointment:
- The typical dose is twice per day.
- During the first day of treatment, your doctor may advise extra applications to help provide adequate relief.
- Prior to use, make sure the site of application is clean and has been dried carefully.
- Apply a small pea-sized amount to your fingertip.
- Spread gently around the affected area, over the skin and just inside the anus.
- Be careful not to rub the ointment in completely.
- To use internally, fix the nozzle to the tube.
- Load the nozzle by squeezing the tube gently.
- Place the nozzle into the rectum so that the entire length of it is inserted.
- Slightly apply pressure to the tube, while at the same time removing the nozzle gradually.
- Wash the nozzle after use and rinse.
For Ultraproct Suppositories:
- In most cases, the dose will be one suppository inserted anally per day, ideally after opening the bowels.
- Again, for instances of increased discomfort, a doctor may suggest using more tablets on the first day of treatment.
- Suppository insertion can made easier by standing with one leg raised with a foot resting on a stool or a chair.
- In order to make sure that the tablets stay hard, keep them in the fridge. It is possible for the tablets to become soft if left at room temperature. If this occurs, you can harden them by placing them in the fridge or in cold water (inside the foil packaging) before use.
For both versions:
- Do not take more than the amount specified by your prescriber.
- If you miss a dose, do not double up on your next one to compensate. Simply take your next dose as scheduled and carry on with the treatment as normal.
- These treatments should not be used for a period of more than 7 days.
Please be aware that the above directions are provided only as a guide, and do not constitute detailed instructions. These can be found in the leaflet supplied.
