Product information

Fexofenadine is a generic medicine containing fexofenadine hydrochloride. It is in a medication class known as antihistamines. Antihistamines are often prescribed to help combat the symptoms associated with certain allergic conditions such as hay fever. They may also be prescribed for motion sickness or insomnia. At Treated.com, our prescribers can issue fexofenadine to help with the physical skin ailments that come about because of allergic reactions such as redness, rash and irritability. Simply take our questionnaire to have your symptoms reviewed.

Fexofenadine is part of a newer group of antihistamines where drowsiness is not such a prominent side effect. Antihistamines are so-called because when the body undergoes an allergic reaction, releasing a chemical compound called ‘histamine’, this can cause symptoms associated with allergies.

Allergies occur when the body reacts to a particular food or substance. They are common and thought to affect around a quarter of the population. They’re especially prevalent in children. As people age, their allergies can fade or become less of a nuisance in terms of symptoms though many can be lifelong. Allergies can also develop in people who have not previously suffered with them. Most allergic reactions do not interfere too greatly with the ability to live a normal life.

Examples of common allergies include grass or pollen allergies (hay fever), dust mites, food, insect bites or stings, latex or mould. Symptoms can range from mild to severe. Common symptoms include sneezing, a runny nose, interruption of or blocked sinuses, itchy or watery eyes, wheezing, coughing, or a red, irritating rash or eczema.

Further symptoms associated with eczema or a rash as the result of an allergic reaction may include itchy, dry, cracked or sore skin. It can be patchy and affect only certain areas or can be more widespread. Inflammation can range from mild to severe. While it can affect any area of the body, commonly affected areas include the hands, elbows, back, knees, face and, in children, the scalp.

If you are suffering with a rash or eczema, and you think it could be the consequence of an allergic reaction, simply take our questionnaire to have your symptoms reviewed by one of our GPhC-registered prescribers or GMC-registered doctors. Pending their approval, your treatment will be processed in our UK pharmacy and shipped using 24hr delivery.

Side effects

All medicines come with side effects, and while not everyone will be affected it is still important to be aware of what side effects can look like should they arise.

Severe allergic reactions (or anaphylaxis) are rare when taking antihistamines, but they can still happen. If your face, mouth, tongue or throat become inflamed, you struggle to breathe, your chest feels tight or you feel flushed, you may be suffering from a severe allergic reaction.

Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

Common side effects include headaches, drowsiness, nausea and dizziness or impaired coordination.

Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):

Feeling sleepy or tired.

Frequency unknown:

Insomnia or difficulty sleeping, nightmares or distressing dreams, feeling nervous, fast or irregular heartbeat, diarrhoea, skin rash or itching and hives.

If you notice any of these side effects it’s vital you make your doctor aware. This also includes any side effects that are not mentioned above.

Warnings

Taking it with other medicines

You must make your doctor or prescriber aware of any medication you take. This includes those which are non-prescription or taken recreationally.

Some indigestion treatments which contain aluminium or magnesium may affect your body’s ability to properly absorb Fexofenadine. We recommend leaving at least 2 hours between taking indigestion remedies and taking Fexofenadine.

Other conditions

Make your doctor or prescriber aware of any pre-existing medical conditions you may have. It is particularly important to inform them if you suffer with any conditions relating to the kidneys or liver, or if you’ve ever had heart disease or a heart problem.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

You should inform your doctor or prescriber if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying for a baby. Fexofenadine should never be prescribed if this applies to you, unless a doctor deems it absolutely necessary to your own health and wellbeing.

Driving and machinery

It is not thought that this treatment will interfere with the ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you become dizzy, drowsy or tired - which are side effects of this treatment - you should refrain from driving.
