Product information

Elleste Duet is a form of hormone replacement therapy, issued as a combined tablet. It is comprised of two synthetic hormones, which simulate the action of oestrogen and progesterone in the body. In doing this, they alleviate symptoms of the menopause, when applied as part of a HRT programme. Elleste Duet can be obtained in two strengths, and is made by Mylan.

The menopause is something which every woman will experience at a certain time in their life. For most, it will occur between the ages of 45 and 55, but it has been known to happen earlier or later in some cases. It is the process by which the ovaries cease producing an egg every month. Additionally, the build up and shedding of the endometrial lining (menstruation) begins to slow down before stopping completely.

When the above changes take place, hormone levels also begin to fluctuate. The amount of oestrogen the body naturally produces begins to fall, and various symptoms can come about as a consequence. These may include difficulty sleeping, vaginal dryness, headaches, mood swings and hot flushes. Some postmenopausal women may also be more prone to decreased bone strength, or osteoporosis.

In the majority of instances, these symptoms will be mild and not interfere with a person’s quality of life. However, they may affect some more significantly, and it is in these cases that treatment may be recommended. This may be issued in the form of hormone replacement therapy, or HRT.

There are three main types of HRT: oestrogen-only, cyclical and continuous combined. Elleste Duet falls into the cyclical category, and may be recommended for those who have begun to experience menopausal symptoms but have not yet completely stopped bleeding.

The functioning agents of Elleste Duet are estradiol and norethisterone. Estradiol, which is a synthetic version of oestrogen, supplements falling levels of the hormone, and alleviates symptoms. However, in some cases where oestrogen levels rise unopposed, the risk of cancer developing in the uterus can increase. In combined HRT, a progestogen is also provided, in the form of norethisterone, to help maintain hormonal balance.

Patients can renew their existing prescription for HRT through our service, or switch to another type if they’re already taking HRT. However, those who are experiencing menopause symptoms for the first time and have not been diagnosed with the menopause should see their doctor in the first instance. They should be able to go through the various treatment options, and help you find a HRT pill which is suitable.

Getting your repeat prescription and buying Elleste Duet online from our UK-based pharmacy is simple. Fill in our straightforward questionnaire, and one of our qualified physicians will screen your answers. Following approval, we’ll dispense your order and our express courier partners will ship it to your door.

Follow the instructions provided by both your prescriber and the product manufacturer when using this item. This will help you to get the best possible results from your medication and also reduce the likelihood of adverse effects.

  1. Take as directed.

If you are taking Elleste Duet 1mg/1mg:

  1. This will be one white pill (marked ‘01’) per day, taken at the same time each day, for days 1-28 of your cycle.

  2. On days 17-28 of your cycle, you should also take one green pill (marked ‘P1’) per day in addition to your white pill.

If you are taking Elleste Duet 2mg/1mg:

  1. This will be one orange tablet, taken at the same time each day, on days 1-28 of your cycle.
  2. On days 17-28, you should take one grey tablet in addition to your orange tablet.

For both doses:

  1. On the strips containing the tablets, you will find arrows and days of the week clearly marked. This is to help you keep track of your treatment.
  2. It is important to take these pills in the correct sequence.
  3. For guidance on when to start using it, refer to the leaflet supplied or ask your doctor.
  4. If you forget to take your pill, try to take it as soon as you remember. If 12 hours have passed since your scheduled dose, skip the pill you have missed and take your next one at the regular time. Do not compensate by doubling up on your next one.
  5. Never take more than the amount prescribed for you by your practitioner.
  6. Swallow each tablet whole, with water. Do not chew them or crush them prior to consumption.

The above directions only constitute a summary. Make sure you read the patient information leaflet fully before use.
