Cyclizine is a generic medicine used to treat the feeling of nausea caused by particular circumstances such as; travelling, inner and middle ear problems, vertigo, radiotherapy treatment or after an operation where general anaesthetic has been administered. The tablet belongs to the category of medicines known as antihistamines and contains the active ingredient cyclizine hydrochloride. It works by blocking messages that are picked up in the brain’s vomiting centre.
- Reduces the feeling of nausea
- Part of the antihistamine medicine group
- Up to three tablets per day
Nausea is the feeling experienced when you need to be sick. It can affect anyone but those diagnosed with migraines are often more susceptible. Cyclizine tablets treat people who experience nausea due to problems mostly related to the middle or inner ear.
The vestibular system located in the ear is made up of chambers, fluid and nerves. The information that this part of the ear relays to the brain helps it to build up a picture of the body’s movement and balance. These messages usually coincide with those being delivered by the body’s eyes and muscles. However, if these messages contradict each other the brain can become confused. This reaction is commonly triggered by travelling by car, boat or plane. The repeated motions of turning, going up and down or slow and fast can send lots of conflicting messages to the brain. This can trigger a reaction in the vomiting centre resulting in a feeling of sickness or actually being sick.
For some people the feeling of nausea may not last for very long or pass when the catalyst causing the feeling is removed, such as if you stop travelling. If motion makes you nauseous you may wish to try some of the following techniques; keeping still, following the horizon, getting fresh air, listening to music and relaxing. Some find that trying ginger-based products, like biscuits or tea, can help reduce symptoms. Unfortunately these practices do not work for everyone and medication may be required.
Cyclizine antihistamine tablets can help combat your nausea symptoms and you can purchase this product through our online pharmacy.
The antihistamine Cyclizine works by blocking receptors in the brain’s vomiting centre. This means that the confusing signals being transmitted from the vestibular area are not picked up. This stops the vomiting centre from reacting, and therefore prevents the feeling of nausea. If your condition does not improve following treatment then you may wish to seek further medical attention.
