Fucidin H is a topical cream for skin conditions, such as psoriasis, where an infection may also be present. It contains a combination of active ingredients, which are: fusidic acid, a type of antibiotic; and hydrocortisone, a corticosteroid. The cream is applied to the affected area usually two or three times a day, for up to two weeks.

  1. Simple to use topical cream
  2. Alleviates redness and swelling
  3. Gets to work quickly

Psoriasis is a condition which is not fully understood. It is thought to be the result of an inflammatory skin response, which causes the skin to generate cells more rapidly than it needs to. Most people who do develop it will notice the condition before the age of 35, and it is a chronic condition characterised by periods of flare-up and dormancy.

Several triggers can cause the illness to spring into activity, but these may differ from person to person. Most commonly, these have been identified as stress, smoking, excess alcohol consumption, hormonal changes, side effects of medicines, or injury to the skin. Typical symptoms include redness, soreness, itching or irritable skin, scaling and flaking, breaks in the skin leading bleeding, and an increased susceptibility to infection. Where infection is present, pustules may also form. These symptoms usually appear on the elbows, knees, hands, scalp or the lower back, but they can occur anywhere.

How a doctor decides to treat the condition will largely depend on the severity of symptoms, and whether or not there are any signs of infection present. For mild to moderate cases where there are signs of infection, they may choose to issue a combination medication such as Fucidin H in order to alleviate the symptoms and clear up any residual bacteria.

The functioning constituents of Fucidin H are fusidic acid and hydrocortisone. Fusidic acid works by inhibiting a bacteria’s capacity for growth, by stopping it from producing self-sustaining proteins. In reducing the release of inflammatory chemicals, hydrocortisone slows down the production of skin cells, which tackles the symptoms of psoriasis.
