Warticon is one of the leading available medications for genital warts. It is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. You can buy Warticon in the UK as a cream, or as a solution. The product is an antiviral, containing a compound called podophyllotoxin, which fights the human papillomavirus to tackle warts at their root cause.

HPV is transferred through skin-to-skin contact with the affected area; most typically vaginal or anal sex, and sometimes through non-penetrative genital-to-genital touch. The condition can also be shared between sexual partners through the use of sex toys. Once the virus is present in a person’s body, it is not curable. However, in the majority of instances, the immune system will eventually rid the body of the virus on its own.
Although it is not as commonly known as other STIs such as chlamydia or gonorrhoea, HPV affects a substantial number of people in the UK on an annual basis. There were around 70,000 new cases of genital warts reported in the UK in 2015. Furthermore, as the virus can sometimes be asymptomatic, the number of those infected with HPV may be much higher.
During periods of activity, genital warts can be treated with antiviral medicine, such as Warticon. The active ingredient in this particular medication works by limiting the spread of the virus in the body. It does this by breaching wart cells and preventing them from dividing and multiplying. This process then results in wart cells dying and the regeneration of healthy skin cells.
You cannot purchase Warticon treatment from our online pharmacy. If you need treatment for genital warts, please contact your doctor or attend a sexual health clinic.
The main component of Warticon is a chemical agent called podophyllotoxin. This is an antiviral element which can be found in the podophyllum plant, but can also be formulated synthetically using alcoholic substances.
When treating HPV, this substance works by entering the tissue of genital warts and interfering with the division of cells. This stops the generation of active wart cells and causes those which are latent to expire. After this process has taken place, new healthy skin tissue develops in the space previously occupied by the wart(s).
Always follow the instructions provided by your prescriber, as well as those outlined in the patient information documentation. Deviating from these may reduce the efficacy of the treatment, or increase the risk of adverse reactions.
- Ensure the area of application is clean and gently dried.
For Warticon Solution:
- Each time you apply Warticon, ensure you use a fresh applicator.
- Administer by dipping the loop of the applicator into the solution, and transferring the solution to the wart.
- Employ the spatula end of the applicator when tending to a large wart or a large cluster of smaller warts.
- Once you have covered the wart(s) and have completed application, let the solution dry.
For Warticon Cream:
Carefully apply the cream to each wart with your fingertip.
- Repeat the process as prescribed by your doctor. A one-week course will typically be one dose twice daily for three consecutive days, followed by four days off.
- A doctor may advise you to repeat the course the following week or for a period of up to four weeks if your symptoms do not clear up.
- Do not let the solution or the cream come into contact with healthy skin. If this happens, wash the area with soap and warm water.
- In the event that the solution or cream comes into contact with your eyes or mouth, rinse immediately and seek medical advice. Similarly, if you swallow Warticon go directly to your nearest hospital.
