Now you can buy a variety of STI test kits through our online pharmacy platform. These enable you to provide a urine or blood sample at home, which you can then send back to our partner pathology lab for screening. We work with The Doctors Laboratory to provide a fast and confidential testing service; and in the event you receive a positive result, our doctor will be able to provide advice on treatment and partner notification.

We currently offer:

  • a gonorrhoea test (urine sample)
  • a chlamydia testing (urine sample)
  • a 2-in-1 combined test for gonorrhoea and chlamydia (urine sample)
  • a 7-in-1 combined test for gonorrhoea, chlamydia, mycoplasma genitalium, ureaplasma, trichomonas vaginalis, gardnerella vaginalis and herpes (urine sample)
  • a HIV test (blood sample)
  • and a 4-in-1 combined test for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and hepatitis C (blood sample)

With each test kit, you’ll receive everything you need to collect your sample, along with easy-to-follow instructions on how to do so. For the urine sample, a small and discreet container is given, and returned to the lab in secure prepaid packaging. The blood test comes with a finger lancet, and again a small container is provided for the sample itself, along with a prepaid envelope.

Once the lab has received your sample, they will usually be able to turn your test around in:

  • two days for those involving a urine sample
  • four hours for those involving a blood sample

You’ll then be able to view your result by logging in to your secure patient area on We’ll contact you via your preferred method (SMS text message or email) to let you know when your result is ready.

In the event that your result is positive, our doctor will advise you on treatment, and provide any assistance you might require with partner notification.

If you take an HIV test and get a positive result, our doctor will contact you via telephone to provide guidance support.

STIs: why get tested?

In England, there are around 400,000 new cases of STIs reported each year. Of these, chlamydia is the most common, accounting for around 40-50% of all new cases reported.

There are several ways STIs can be spread from one person to another, including through unprotected vaginal, oral and anal sex, or through sharing sex toys.

When left untreated, STIs can lead to more serious health issues. In the case of chlamydia or gonorrhoea, infertility is one possible complication; whereas other conditions such as HIV, syphilis or hepatitis C can cause life-threatening illness.

Bacterial STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis can be effectively treated with antibiotic medicine; however HIV cannot currently be cured, and will require long-term treatment.

It’s typical for many STIs not to cause noticeable symptoms, and therefore be easy to miss. Often, the only way to know for sure whether you have an STI is to get tested.

Take our short consultation to order your STI test kit online. Our doctor will ask you a few questions just to make sure the test you are ordering is suitable. We’ll then ship your test to your chosen address via tracked next-day delivery.

Types of Test Kit

There are several different types of test available for STIs. Some require a urine sample, and others a blood sample. Sometimes when you go for testing in person at a GUM clinic, you may also be asked to provide a swab.

Currently on our site, we offer urine sample tests for:

  • chlamydia
  • gonorrhoea
  • chlamydia and gonorrhoea (as a 2-in-1 combined test)
  • and a 7-in-1 test for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, mycoplasma genitalium, ureaplasma, gardnerella vaginalis, trichomonas vaginalis (TV) and herpes simplex (I and II).

We offer blood sample tests for:

  • HIV
  • and for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B and C (as a combined 4-in-1 test).

(We do not provide swab testing at present.)

When you order your test kit from our UK pharmacy, you’ll receive instructions on how to collect your sample.

You’ll also be given a prepaid addressed envelope so you can quickly and easily send your sample to our pathology partners, The Doctors Laboratory, for testing.

How do they work?

The urine tests for bacterial STIs (chlamydia, gonorrhoea, mycoplasma genitalium, ureaplasma, gardnerella vaginalis and trichomonas vaginalis) detect the presence of the bacteria responsible for each of these infections.

The blood test for HIV works slightly differently; this instead detects antibodies the body produces in response to the virus.

How long will it take to get my result?

It depends on the test you have.

The typical turnaround time for urine test results upon receipt at the lab is two days.

For blood tests, it’s four hours.

Where can I find my result?

When your result is ready, we’ll send you a text or email (whichever method you have instructed us to use) to let you know.

You’ll then be able to view your result by logging into your secure patient area.

Our doctor will provide further advice on treatment if your test result is positive.

If you have taken an HIV test and received a positive result, our doctor will call you to advise you on what to do next.

Questions and Answers

What’s the difference between the tests?

There are six different STI test kits available to buy from our pharmacy.

The following tests require you to provide a urine sample:

  • gonorrhoea
  • chlamydia
  • combined gonorrhoea and chlamydia
  • and the 7-in-1 STI test

and the following tests require you to provide a blood sample:

  • HIV
  • and the combined 4-in-1 test for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B and C

The urine tests come with a container in which to provide your sample.

The blood tests come with a small lancet device, and again a container for your sample.

Detailed, simple-to-follow instructions and a prepaid envelope are provided with both.

What’s the turnaround time?

For urine tests, two days upon receipt at the lab.

For blood tests, four hours from receipt at the lab.

In most cases, provided you do not delay sending back your sample, you should be able to get your result within one week or less.

Should I take the test?

If you think you’ve been exposed to an STI, or if one of your partners has advised you that they have tested positive, you should get tested as soon as possible.

Even if, to the best of your knowledge, you haven’t been exposed to an STI, it’s a good idea to regularly get tested anyway if you’re sexually active and not in a monogamous relationship.

What happens if I’m positive?

Our doctor will be able to provide advice on getting the treatment you need. They will also provide any additional support you need for partner notification.

If you take an HIV test and get a positive result, our doctor will contact you by telephone to notify and provide support.
