Gyno-Daktarin Cream is a medication for vaginal thrush. It can be applied as a pessary, which means that it is dispensed directly into the vagina; or it can be distributed on external vaginal infections directly. The core ingredient of the medicine is an antifungal agent called miconazole nitrate. When treating vaginal thrush the dose is usually two applications a day for one week; or one application a day for 10 to 14 days.

Vaginal thrush is a condition which almost every woman will experience at some point in their adult lives. It is typified by redness and raw sensations of irritation in or around the vagina, discomfort during urination or penetrative sex, and in fewer cases, the presence of a slightly off-white discharge. The condition is usually not serious, but it can be a source of distraction and frustration for those experiencing it.
It is caused by the Candida albicans species of yeasts. This is commonly found in the vagina, but poses no problems when present in smaller amounts. Some natural bacteria work to monitor and manage Candida, so that it does not rise above a certain level. However, the yeast can flourish and grow under certain conditions, most typically when levels of opposing, positive bacteria are depleted. When Candida becomes too prominent in the vagina of the host, an infection can develop, resulting in the symptoms described above.
The NHS treats as many as 80,000 new cases of vaginal thrush every year. The infection is more likely to occur in people who are immunocompromised, have diabetes, or are pregnant, but can affect women of any age.
There are several reasons why thrush may develop in an individual. The yeast can be passed from one individual to another through sex, but it can also be caused by washing with certain types of soap or detergent, as well as through the use of antibiotic medication (which can alter the body’s bacterial balance).
Miconazole nitrate, which is the operative component of Gyno-Daktarin, relieves symptoms by breaking down the defences of fungal cells. To maintain their form, these cells produce an alcoholic substance called ergosterol. This sterol contributes to their membrane strength and structural stability. Miconazole inhibits the cell’s capacity to produce this substance, thereby creating holes in the membrane of the cell, and causing the contents to flow out. This eliminates the cells, and cures the infection.

The antifungal substance in Gyno-Daktarin is a compound called miconazole nitrate. It was developed by Belgian firm Janssen Pharmaceutica, and is applied to the treatment of various types of fungal infection.
This agent gets to the root of infection by neutralising the cells of the offending fungus. Candida albicans is a yeast which is widely present in people’s bodies. In smaller numbers, the yeast is harmless, and adequately managed by the body’s own bacteria. However, in certain conditions the presence of Candida can grow, and this is when the yeast becomes abrasive. High levels of it in the vagina can lead to a thrush infection.
Miconazole destroys fungal cells by preventing from producing a vital self-sustaining component, called ergosterol. Once this process has taken place, the cells can no longer sustain structural consistency. This causes them to die out, and then the infection goes away.
