Caverject is a single use erectile dysfunction treatment, designed to be injected into the base of the penis to improve blood flow. Caverject is currently out of stock, however, for patients using the 20mcg dosage an alternative similar treatment called Viridal Duo is available.
Our secure service enables you to buy Caverject or renew your prescription online. All orders are checked by UK prescribers, prior to being dispensed at our GPhC-registered pharmacy.
Caverject Vials / Dual Chamber
Caverject is an injectable drug, indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It is available to buy from our online pharmacy in two forms, as Caverject Vials and as Caverject Dual Chamber. Both perform the same function, but are applied in slightly different ways, and provided in different strengths.
Caverject is only available to buy from Treated.com for patients who have used it before, and been shown in person by a doctor or nurse how to administer it. If you have not used it before and been shown how to use it, you must see your doctor in person to be prescribed Caverject.
- Noticeable differences in as little as 5 minutes
- Available in two forms
- Simple to use injections
When you buy Caverject injection vials you get: a vial containing the active ingredient alprostadil in the form of a powder; a syringe containing the mixing solution; and two types of needles. The larger needle is used to insert the liquid into the vial containing the powder; and once this has dissolved, the smaller needle is used to inject the mixed solution into the base of the penis.
Those who buy Caverject dual chamber will receive injections that do not require assembly. The medicine is activated when the two chambers mixed together.
Which Caverject dose should I use?
Caverject Vials come in the form of 10 mcg, 20 mcg or 40 mcg vials; whereas Caverject Dual Chamber comes in either 10 or 20 microgram strength packs. The strength issued to you by a doctor will depend on whether you have used the medicine before, and whether it was effective.
Caverject 10mcg as a starting dose
To test suitability of the treatment, first time users of Caverject Vials might be prescribed the 10 microgram injection but only advised to use one quarter of it (2.5 micrograms), providing they have no pre-existing medical conditions. A 5 microgram injection used to be prescribed but this dose has been discontinued by the manufacturer. If the treatment causes no side effects, a doctor may prescribe the same dose when more is required, or a stronger dose if necessary.
For Caverject Dual Chamber, a doctor may typically prescribe the 10 microgram pack for first time users, and advise them to use only a quarter of the dose. They might then advise the patient to increase the dose by 2.5 micrograms each time they use it, until a satisfactory erection is obtained.
Increasing to Caverject 20mcg and 40mcg
In some cases, the medication is well tolerated but a prescriber thinks a higher dose is suitable, they recommend raising the dose and using the 20mcg or 40mcg injection instead.
If you have not used this treatment before, do not buy this treatment online and see your doctor. They will need to perform checks to ensure it is suitable for you, and show you how to use it.
Patients who have been shown how to use this medication by a doctor or nurse and have used it before can buy Caverject from our UK pharmacy.
Stay safe when you order Caverject online
There are several options available to men who are seeking help for impotence. How to get ED treatment depends on your own circumstances and what you’ve used before. Some men may be entitled to medication on an NHS prescription, whereas others may need to seek it privately.
Getting medicines online should always be undertaken with the utmost care. It is important to ensure that the website you are buying from can fulfil your order, and is operating legally.
Some online pharmacies may claim that you can buy Caverject from them as a generic alprostadil injection. However, no licensed generic form of the medication is currently available.
An NHS doctor can prescribe Caverject, but will only issue it on an NHS prescription in certain cases. In all cases, patients who can take oral ED treatments are generally advised to try those first (before being prescribed non-oral options).
To protect yourself from fraudulent practices when you buy erectile dysfunction medicine online, you should only ever use GPhC-registered pharmacies staffed by qualified prescribers.
At Treated.com, we work with GMC-registered doctors and UK pharmacy prescribers to help us ensure that our treatments are safe.
Caverject needs to be administered in a specific way to help reduce the risk of possible side effects. Following the guidelines below and acquainting yourself with the patient information leaflet will help you to get the most out of your treatment.
- Prior to using Caverject Vials for the first time, it is important that a qualified doctor or nurse demonstrates how to use it on at least one occasion.
- Application instructions can be found in the patient information leaflet. However these should only be used as a reminder. Reading this is not a substitute for physical demonstration from a healthcare professional.
- The packet will contain two injections: the larger one is used to mix the medicine; whereas the smaller one is used to administer the medicine.
- Once mixed, the contents need to be injected directly into the base of the penis.
- Never use more than the amount prescribed for you by your doctor.
- Never use this treatment more than once a day or three times a week.
- If you are unsure about anything before or during the use of this medicine, speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
Caverject Dual Chamber:
- Before first use, a doctor or nurse should demonstrate how to use Caverject Dual Chamber.
- A step-by-step guide can be found in the patient information leaflet if you need a refresher.
- The injection should be prepared before injecting; this can be done up to 24 hours in advance.
- Caverject Dual Chamber is administered into the base of the penis.
- Never exceed the prescribed dose.
- Carefully read the patient information leaflet provided before using this treatment.
- If you are unsure about any aspect of this treatment, ask your doctor.
You should not use recreational drugs at the same time as erectile dysfunction treatments, as this can cause a very dangerous reaction.
Please note that the 40mcg Vials injection is not supplied in a fridge pack, and therefore expires three months after the dispatch date. You should not use it after this time, and ensure it is safely disposed of.
No medicine is 100 percent risk free when it comes to side effects. Although most men will experience no issues when using Caverject, it is important to be aware of the risks present, so that you can act and get help in the event that side effects do occur. Here is a list of some of the known possible side effects associated with this medicine:
Common (1 in 10 people):
Uncommon (1 in 100 people):
Swelling or skin discolouration at site of injection, prolonged erections, tender lumps, scarring or misshapen penis (seek medical attention right away if you notice any physical irregularities on or around the penis, or get an erection which won’t go away).
Rare (1 in 1000 people):
Pupil dilation, nausea, dry mouth, irritation of the skin, passing blood with urine, painful urination, feelings of heat in the penis.
The information listed above is not a complete account of the known side effects which this medication may cause. For a more definitive list of side effects, please refer to the patient information leaflet, or speak to your doctor. If you experience any of the above side effects, speak to a medical professional immediately.
Taking it with other medicines
During consultation, you should tell your doctor about any medicines you are taking, whether they are prescription or non-prescription medicines, or remedies. You should not begin or stop taking medication when using this treatment without consulting your prescribing physician first.
Inform your prescriber if you take: antihypertensives, sympathomimetics, high blood pressure medicines, or anticoagulants (such as warfarin). Do not take Caverject Vials with any other medications for impotence.
Conditions to look out for
Before using the treatment, let your doctor know if you have, or have had, any of the following: blood-related illnesses (such as sickle-cell anaemia), penile implants, myeloma, any condition which inhibits your ability to perform vigorous exercise, any form of penile problems such as scarring, a deformity or Peyronie’s disease, lung, chest or heart conditions, mental illness, addiction, or stroke.
Again, this is not a comprehensive list of restrictions. In the interests of safety, disclose your full medical history during consultation so that your doctor can make an informed decision about whether this medication is suitable for you to take.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
This item should not be used by women.
It is suitable for use in men whose partner is pregnant or breastfeeding.
You should not take any recreational drugs (such as amyl nitrate or ‘poppers’, cocaine or ecstasy) if you are planning to take erectile dysfunction treatments, as this can be extremely harmful.
Driving and using machines
Caverject is not likely to inhibit your capacity to drive or use machines.
Sexually transmitted infections
Please note that use of Caverject can cause a small amount of bleeding at the injection site, which can increase the risk of transmitting infections. Safe sex practices such as using condoms can lower the risk of transmission. For further guidance, ask your doctor.
Can I still drink alcohol?
Technically yes, as there are no known direct interactions between Caverject and alcohol. But drinking alcohol can reduce your ability to get an erection, so we would advise against it when using this treatment.
Will I still be able to drive?
Caverject only works for a short period of time, so should not affect your ability to drive. However, there is a chance that you may experience side effects which might make it dangerous to drive, and in these cases you should refrain from doing so and speak to a doctor right away.
How should I store it?
Keep Caverject in a cool, dry storage environment, below 25 degrees. The medicine should be stored in its original packaging to protect it from sunlight and moisture. The 40mcg Vials injection expires three months after it has been dispensed by the pharmacy, and should be safely disposed of after this time.
Am I allergic to anything in the medicine?
As well as the active ingredient alprostadil, Caverject also contains lactose, sodium citrate, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. If you are allergic to any of these ingredients, do not use this treatment.
Can you get Caverject over-the-counter?
Caverject can only be bought with a prescription in the UK. This means a doctor will need to write a prescription for you before a pharmacy can legally issue this medication.
Treated.com is a UK based pharmacy. We work with GMC registered doctors as well as prescribing pharmacists, who can write you a prescription based on the answers you give using our secure online consultation process.
Can I buy Caverject online?
Men who have used the treatment before and have been shown how to administer it can buy Caverject online from our UK pharmacy. We work with qualified clinicians and a UK dispensing pharmacy. Once approved, your order will be shipped by tracked courier. In most cases, parcels are delivered in one working day.
Caverject isn’t considered a first line option for most men. If you’re having ED symptoms for the first time, you should talk to a prescriber about what ED treatments there are. If you have not used Caverject before, you should see your doctor. Patients who are able to use oral ED medications are typically recommended those first. Before using Caverject, a doctor will need to undertake checks to make sure it is suitable and show you how to use it.
