Product information

Cilique is a contraceptive pill. This is one of the most reliable, reversible methods of contraception, if administered correctly. It is a combined contraceptive treatment, meaning it contains two versions of synthetic female hormones: progesterone and oestrogen. Together, these hormones work to prevent pregnancy. You can buy Cilique online using our secure pharmacy service.

  1. Easy to take
  2. Reliable method
  3. 99% effective when used correctly

To understand how a combined contraceptive treatment works, it is first necessary to understand how pregnancy occurs. Roughly 14 days before the period is due, the ovaries produce and release an egg. This process is known as ovulation. Conception happens when a sperm cell enters the uterus and breaks through the wall of the egg. Once fertilised, the egg travels along the fallopian tubes until it arrives and attaches itself to the endometrium (the uterine wall). This process is known as implantation. After implantation, the egg develops into an embryo and growth begins.

This process is managed by the hormones progesterone and oestrogen. When oestrogen levels peak, for example, ovulation begins. Oestrogen is also responsible for maintaining, repairing and thickening the uterus lining. Progesterone is responsible for preserving the lining of the uterus during the latter half of the menstrual cycle and during pregnancy. When fertilisation does not occur, the egg breaks down once it arrives at the uterus. The lining of the endometrium also breaks down. This is what is known as a period.

The synthetic hormones in Cilique, norgestimate and ethinylestradiol, mimic the actions of progesterone and oestrogen respectively. In a sense, they trick the body into thinking ovulation has already occurred, which means an egg is not released. Without the presence of an egg, pregnancy cannot occur. Cilique also works by making the mucus in the cervix thicken, which makes it more difficult for sperm to move around and reach the womb.

Many people seeking contraceptive treatment opt for this combined hormonal pill, because it’s a fairly straightforward method of contraception and the success rate is high compared with other forms of treatment. You should also consult your doctor or family planning nurse before opting for any type of treatment, to better understand which is best suited to your body and your needs.
