The ED version is taken every day; the one-week rest period is replaced by the once-daily administration of 7 inactive pills.

- Available as a 21 and 28 (ED) day pill
- 99% effective contraceptive protection
To know how Femodene functions in preventing pregnancy, it is important first to know how conception occurs. In the female body, the ovaries produce an egg at a certain time each month (and sometimes, they may release more than one). This egg then travels along the fallopian tube towards the uterus. When a man’s sperm is released into the vagina during sex, it travels through the womb towards the egg. It fertilises the egg on contact.
The egg, now pregnated, continues to travel towards the uterus. Once it reaches its destination, the egg implants on the uterine wall (endometrium), where it goes on to develop into an embryo. In those cases where fertilisation does not occur, the egg disintegrates in the uterus, and the womb sheds its lining. This is then discharged through menstrual bleeding (or a period).
During the menstrual cycle, the body releases certain hormones to manage both the release of eggs from the ovary, as well as the shedding of the endometrium. These hormones are called progesterone and oestrogen.
Combined pills like Femodene contain synthetic variations of these hormones. Ethinylestradiol and gestodene, which are the active components of Femodene, work by making the body assume that ovulation has already taken place. This stops the release of an egg from the ovary. These ingredients perform further functions in preventing pregnancy, by altering the consistency of the endometrium to make it less receptive to egg implantation; and thickening vaginal fluid, so as to hinder the mobility of sperm in the womb.
