Product information

Feanolla is a contraceptive method known as a progesterone-only pill (POP), is often called the mini-pill. ‘Progesterone-only’ refers to the fact that Feanolla only contains one type of hormone, in this case desogestrel. This method of contraception may be suitable for those who have been found to be sensitive to oestrogen as well as women who are breastfeeding.

Progesterone is one of the hormones used by the reproductive system. Depending on the stage of the menstrual calendar, levels of this hormone rise and fall. During the menstrual phase known as ovulation, one of the ovaries sends an egg on its journey towards the uterus. Once the egg reaches the fallopian tube it can become fertilised if it comes into contact with a male sperm. If it is not fertilised then the egg will fall away with the endometrium (lining of the womb), as part of menstrual bleeding.

Feanolla contains the synthetic progesterone known as desogestrel. This replaces the falling levels of the hormone so that ovulation does not occur. It also helps to thicken cervical mucus so that sperm are not easily able to make their way towards any eggs. When taken correctly, the pill can be effectively used to prevent pregnancies from occuring.

Progesterone-only pills are often recommended in cases where a user is sensitive to oestrogen (a component in combined hormonal contraception). For instance, someone who gets migraines, or who is more at risk of blood clots may be better suited to the progesterone-only pill than the combined pill.

Contraceptive pills are a very effective method of preventing pregnancy when used correctly. It is important that you know what to do if you miss a pill, and what extra precautions you might need to take. You can find more information on this in the patient information leaflet.

If you are looking to begin using hormonal contraception and you are considering a mini pill such as Feanolla, we suggest you speak to your doctor. They will be able to help you find the most suitable contraceptive.

If you are already taking the pill or using hormonal birth control, you can buy Feanolla online or renew your prescription via our online doctor consultation. Once you have completed our questionnaire, a GMC-registered doctor will review your request. Approved orders are granted a prescription which is sent electronically to our UK-based, dispensing pharmacy. Here it will be processed and dispatched via secure tracked delivery.
