What is Clindamycin?
Clindamycin is an oral antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, like paronychia – a nail infection around the nail that leads to inflammation. It’s characterized by redness, swelling, and pain. While mild cases of paronychia can resolve on their own, oral antibiotics are needed for severe or persistent infections.
How does Clindamycin work?
Clindamycin is an antibiotic that works by stopping certain bacteria from making the proteins they need to survive and replicate. This makes it easier for your immune system to clear the infection.[1]
Will I get side effects using Clindamycin?
You might get side effects while taking Clindamycin, but not everyone will get them. These may include:
- Diarrhea
- Stomach pain
- Vomiting
Any side effects you do get should go away once you stop treatment. But if they worsen or are hard to manage, let your doctor know right away.
What doses of Clindamycin are there?
Clindamycin comes in two doses (150 mg and 300 mg), although we only supply the 300 mg dose. The typical advice for paronychia is to take one 300mg tablet four times a day.
